Bridge of Sighs

Ekphrastic Roundelay

Text of the poem

Rosy-glowed and stone contorted,
Bridge of Sighs and college curling
inside out and soft: its vaunted
halls are opened, ours to twirl in
under bouncy clouds and haunted
teal skies. The cat is purring

inside out and soft, its vaunted
halls are opened, ours to twirl in
claiming flecks of stars, and porter
dark, the inky nightís unfurling.
Under bouncy clouds and haunted
teal skies, the cat is purring,

claiming flecks of stars and porter
dark. The inky nightís unfurling
moonlight, ghostly nimbus thwared
now the lamps and stone are swirling
under bouncy clouds and haunted
teal skies. The cat is purring

moonlight. Ghostly nimbus, thwarted
now the lamps and stone are twirling
light like peaches, turquoise, watered
ruby Ė feel your edges blurring.
Under bouncy clouds and haunted
teal skies, the cat is purring.

Thanks to The Writers' Greenhouse for the prompt to write an ekphrasis poem and a roundelay, and Joshua Squashua for making his amazing picture available.
